| The Savvy Cruiser's Windjammer-at-a-Glance |
Windjammer Barefoot Cruises provides cruising's most casual voyages on four vintage tall ships and a half-century-old freighter named Amazing Grace. The oldest of the saling ships is the 72-passenger Mandalay, built in 1923. The Yankee Clipper, which carries 64 passengers, was built in the late 1920s. The largest of the tall ships, the 126-passenger Polynesia, dates from 1938, and the newest of the sailing vessels, the Legacy, first sailed in 1959. All of the ships obviously have been refurbished over the years, but for the most part remain comparatively spartan. The word "barefoot" in the line's name still defines the ambiance to be found aboard these ships. You don't need shoes -- or fancy clothes -- if you don't feel like wearing them. |
