Pride of America to Hold Fund-Raising Cruise for Three Hawaiian Charities

Norwegian Cruise Line's Pride of America, the first new U.S.-flagged cruise ship in nearly 50 years, is currently alongside the outfitting pier at the German Lloyd Werft shipyard after leaving drydock in February.

Sea trials are scheduled from May 19 through May 22 and NCL America will take delivery of Pride of America on June 6, 2005.

After a series of inaugural events and cruises in the U.K. and the U.S. mainland, Pride of America will sail to Honolulu where she will be based year round beginning July 23, 2005.

The night before her maiden Hawaiian voyage, NCL America will hold an overnight fund-raising cruise to benefit three Hawaiian charities.

All ticket revenue from the cruise will benefit Child & Family Service, the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement and Kapi‘olani Children’s Miracle Network. NCL America will donate the use of the ship and all food and beverage services and amenities for the cruise.

This is the third charity cruise in Hawaii sponsored by NCL.

“Our first two cruises raised more than half a million dollars for local charities,” said Robert Kritzman, NCL's executive vice president and managing director of Hawaii Operations.

“Hawaii is our home and we are proud to partner with these organizations, which make such an important contribution to our community. We look forward to continuing and growing our partnership with them.”

Guests on the charity cruise will enjoy a full evening and morning of culinary delights with Pride of America’s eight different restaurants as well as a sail away cocktail party, live entertainment and a comedy show.

For booking the cruise, interested participants should contact the charity they would like to support. Phone numbers for each charity are:

  • The Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement – 808- 521-5011
