December 21 -- Celebrity Cruises has decided to deploy a fourth ship, the 1,750 passenger Century, to Europe for the summer of 2005, cancelling previously scheduled 9- and 10-night Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale.
The Century will join Celebrity's Constellation, Galaxy and Millennium in Europe, and will sail a series of 12-night Baltic cruises roundtrip from Amsterdam, a unique Norwegian Fjords cruise, and 10- and 11-night Mediterranean cruises.
Celebrity's announcement, leaving the line with no ship in the Caribbean for the summer of 2005, reflects the surging popularity of Europe as a cruise destination, particularly among North Americans worried about the deline in value of the dollar against the Euro.
"Celebrity Cruises has always represented incredible value, and next year, particularly compared with traditional land-based vacations in Europe, it's absolutely incomparable," said Celebrity Cruises President & COO Jack Williams.
Celebrity has established special toll-free numbers to reaccommodate
guests booked on Century's Caribbean cruises affected by the new European
sailings. Guests with individual bookings are asked to call 1-888-837-5676.
Groups are asked to call 1-888-305-4549.
