The cruise ship Star Princess, on its way back to New York after a summer of cruising in Europe, was forced to temporarily disembark all passengers in St. John's, Newfoundland, on October 4th after a security breach led to a full search of the vessel.
The security sweep turned up several suspicious packages, but ultimately the Royal Newfoundland Constaburlary said the packages were found to pose no danger and that the search of the ship turned up nothing substantial.
Police said some passengers aboard the Star Princess had reported seeing a stranger on board the vessel, but they said the unidentified man apparently had left the ship before the search.
Passengers from the ship returning from shore excursions were forced to wait on the dock -- where chairs and blankets were provided -- until the search of the ship was completed.
The Star Princess left St. John's after it was cleared on October 4th, setting sail almost three hours past its scheduled departure.
